InfoIn India, women face a high risk of experiencing exploitation and violence. In 2013, sexual criminal law was tightened, and in recent years government protection services such as support centres and helplines have been further expanded. However, protection against violence remains insufficient, and the number of reported cases of violence against women continues to rise.
Usthi’s projects aim to provide protection and create opportunities for children and young women who are affected by or at risk of exploitation and violence. Activities in this area include preventive measures, offering those affected ways out of dangerous situations, and supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Children’s and women’s homes provide safe spaces where those affected can stabilise and receive professional support. At the same time, children and young women are given access to school and skills training so that they can build a self-determined future.
Usthi’s projects in the area of protection and empowerment are implemented in collaboration with a local partner organisation in the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
